Nokia has started rolling out the Android 12 update to the Nokia 8.3 5G. A user on the company’s official community forums confirmed the rollout in Finland. The update doesn’t seem to be available anywhere else at the moment. But it shouldn’t be long before Nokia seeds the new Android version to the device in other markets.

Android 12 brings several new features and improvements to the Nokia 8.3 5G. Google’s new Privacy Dashboard lets you review which apps accessed your location in the last 24 hours. You can revoke any permission given to apps from here. The display notification indicators for camera and microphone access should also be part of the package.

A conversation widget makes it easier to find all your important conversations right on the homescreen. Private Compute Core is a first-of-its-kind secure mobile environment to protect sensitive data on your phone. Nokia has also made accessibility improvements with new visibility features such as area magnification, extra dim, and bold text.

As part of the big Android update, the Nokia 8.3 5G is also getting the April 2022 Android security patch. The new software package is rolling out over the air (OTA) with the build number V3.380. Since OTA updates are usually released incrementally, it could take a few days before all eligible units in a region receive it. You can manually check for updates from the Settings app. If you don’t see any update yet, check back again later.

This is a major Android update and likely weighs upwards of 1GB. Nokia suggests you connect your phone to an unmetered and stable Wi-Fi network if you are on a limited mobile data plan. Also, make sure to keep the device charged or connected to the power source during the installation.

Nokia 8.3 5G gets Android 12

The Nokia 8.3 5G arrived in September 2020 running Android 10 out of the box. The mid-range smartphone sports a 6.8-inch LCD screen, a Snapdragon 765G processor with up to 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage, and a 64-megapixel quad-camera setup at the back. In February last year, it received the Android 11 update. The Finnish company is now seeding Android 12 to the device. This could be the last major Android OS update for the phone.

According to Twitter user @Hikari_Calyx, the existing bootloader unlock method works on the Nokia 8.3 5G after the Android 12 update. You can also downgrade the phone to Android 11 from Android 12. But if you haven’t unlocked the bootloader, you’ll first need to downgrade to Android 10.
