Android 13 has started rolling out to the LG Velvet 5G. This smartphone launched back in May 2020, and you may remember it for its camera setup on the back. It had a ‘raindrop’ camera layout.

Do note that the update has started rolling out in South Korea as we speak, but it’ll likely spread to other markets soon. Also, this is the 5G variant of the phone we’re talking about. As some of you may recall, the 4G model launched two months after the 5G variant, with a different SoC. That model is not yet getting this update, as far as we know.

This handset was originally launched with Android 11, but it got updated to Android 12 in March of last year. Now, 11 months later, it is receiving its Android 13 update, despite the fact LG is no longer making smartphones. It’s really nice to see that the company is supporting its current lineup.

The size of this update is 1,37GB, and you can expect a similar size once it launches globally. As expected, you’ll be getting all the major Android 13 features Google announced here. Some security enhancements are also included.

This update brings new media player controls to the lock screen, and the notification bar. Themed icons and related enhancements are also included, and much more. You’ll, of course, see an altered UI in general here.

This phone is fueled by the Snapdragon 765G, and it is quite tough

The LG Velvet 5G is fueled by the Snapdragon 765G SoC, unlike its 4G counterpart, which comes with the Snapdragon 845. The device features a 6.8-inch fullHD+ P-OLED display, while the phone is MIL-STD-810G compliant. That’s not something we see that often in non-rugged phones. LG did include it in a number of its regular devices, though, to prove how tough they are. The device is also IP68 certified, by the way.

This phone included 6GB or 8GB of RAM, depending on the model. A 5,000mAh battery is also included in it, while 25W wired, and 9W wireless charging is supported. There are three cameras on the back, one on the front, and stereo speakers are included too. You can check out our review if you’d like to know more about the phone.
