It’s not exactly a secret that the iPhone 16 series is expected to include a camera button. The thing is, that camera button on the iPhone 16 could prove to be more useful than we thought.

The iPhone 16 camera button will be more useful than you’d think

A new report by The Information also reports that a camera button will be included on the iPhone 16 series. That’s not all, however. The source also says that this will be a physical button, not a capacitive one, and that it will placed on the lower-right side of the iPhone 16 models.

That button will be sensitive to both pressure and touch, though. You will apparently be able to lightly press on the button in order to focus, while a firm press will act as a shutter key. You will also be able to swipe across that button, as it will act as a touch panel of sorts.

You’ll be able to swipe left or right in order to zoom in or out. Will should make the experience more seamless than using the touchscreen or volume rocker buttons to do the same, which is what most phones rely on.

This will depend on Apple’s execution, though, of course. If Apple nails the sensitivity of the swiping action and ends up allowing you to fine-tune your zoom levels, that will be great. If it does not, it will be mostly useless, we’ll see.

All iPhone 16 models will include this button

The Information also added that the camera button is currently being tested on all iPhone 16 models. So, the standard, the Plus, and Pro models alike. This won’t be a Pro-exclusive feature, it would seem.

The source got all that information from two people familiar with the development, in case you were wondering. Considering that several previous reports suggested that the camera button is coming, we have no reason not to believe it. The extra functions seem a bit unlike Apple, but the company did mix it up with the Action Button, so… this is a possibility.

Apple will announce its iPhone 16 series smartphones later this year, in September. So we’re in for quite a wait.
