The XREAL Air 2 Ultra AR glasses want to compete with the Apple Vision Pro while not breaking the bank.

XREAL made an appearance at CES 2024 to showcase its products and announce a new one. The company announced the XREAL Air 2 Ultra AR glasses, and these glasses are one of the products that received one of our CES 2024 awards. These glasses are the top-end AR glasses in the company’s lineup, and follow the XREAL Air 2 model that I reviewed back in November last year. There are some differences between the two models, including one major one.

The XREAL Air 2 Ultra AR glasses got announced at CES, and offer full-feature spatial computing

What’s so special about these glasses? Well, they bring full-featured spatial computing to the table. That’s also why the company believes it can compete with the Apple Vision Pro on some level. That’s something the XREAL Air 2 model did not offer, not at all. They offer 6DoF (six degrees of freedom) spatial tracking and hand tracking. These glasses essentially allow you to map virtual objects in the real world. That’s a whole new level compared to what the XREAL Air 2 offered.

Now, keep in mind that you do still need a device to hook these AR glasses too. You’ll need a compatible phone, a Windows PC or a Mac device. The XREAL Air 2 Ultra AR glasses connect via a Type-C cable. You can read more about supported devices in our announcement article. Also, do note that XREAL is currently preparing its custom computing unit that will go with the XREAL Air 2 Ultra AR glasses. So that’ll be an option as well. These glasses also work with XREAL’s Beam unit.

These glasses deliver a 52-degree FoV, have two fullHD panels & are made out of titanium

The XREAL Air 2 Ultra glasses deliver a wider 52-degree FoV, and 42 pixel per degree (PPD) sharpness. Two front-facing 3D environment sensors are included, and XREAL uses a special electrochromic glass here, so that you can dim the glasses. Three dimming levels are available for increased immersion. Two Sony micro OLED displays are included, these are fullHD panels that go up to 500 nits of brightness, and can project a huge image in front of your face.

The XREAL Air 2 Ultra glasses are made out of titanium. Well, a titanium frame is used here, which not only helps with durability but weight too. These glasses weigh only 80 grams. These AR glasses are already up to pre-order and cost only $699.
