LG’s WebOS is a popular smart device operating system that’s associated with the company’s line of TVs. While it has a ton of smart features, one feature that’s missing is Chromecast. Well, after announcing that Chromecast is making it to its future TVs, LG also announced that the technology is also making it to its older TVs as well.
Chromecast is an extremely popular and convenient means of streaming content to larger screens. If you’re playing a video on your phone, you can simply stream that video to your TV with only a few Taps. Many devices, including devices running Google’s Android TV and Google TV, can use Chromecast out of the box.
Chromecast is now coming to older LG TVs
During CES 2024, LG announced its plans for 2024, and those plans involved very smart smart TVs. The company also announced that moving forward, its TVs will have Chromecast built-in. So, you’ll be able to stream content to your LG TV without having to sign in to that service. This is one of the main benefits of Chromecast.
However, if you’re currently sporting an LG TV, and you’re not planning on upgrading anytime soon, this might seem like a smack to the face. Well, if you are using a TV from 2023 or 2022, there is a chance that you’ll get Chromecast support in the near future.
According to the report, LG is planning on equipping its older TVs with Chromecast support via a software update. The update is coming sometime in early 2024, and it will affect the 2022 models of LG’s OLED, OLED Flex, OLED Objet Collection Posé, and QNED Mini LED 8K TVs. As for the 2023 models, we’re not entirely sure. We’ll just have to wait until the software update arrives.
At this point, there’s no telling if LG will bring the software update to even older models. Hopefully, the company does, as Chromecast is an incredibly convenient and useful tool.
