Garmin is adding a couple of new models to its Venu series of smartwatches. The company introduced the Venu Sq 2 and Venu Sq 2 – Music Edition at IFA 2022 in Berlin. At their cores, these are the same smartwatches. The only difference is that the latter offers offline music playback from streaming services like Spotify, Amazon Music, and Deezer. You can store up to 500 songs for offline listening. This ability comes at an added cost of $50. The vanilla Venu Sq 2 is priced at $250 while the Music Edition has a suggested retail price of $300. Nothing else changes, though.

The Garmin Venu Sq 2 features an almost-square smartwatch featuring a colored 1.41-inch AMOLED display with a 360×320 pixels resolution and always-on display (AOD) functionality. The screen comes with Gorilla Glass 3 protection, supported by anodized aluminum bezels. Garmin is using fiber-reinforced polymer for the body. The watch measures 40.6 x 37.0 x 11.1 mm in dimension and weighs 38 grams.

The Venu Sq 2 offers all of those health tracking abilities that you expect from modern smartwatches. You have heart rate, blood saturation, stress, sleep, hydration, and women’s health monitoring, including the menstrual cycle and pregnancy. You get alerts if the watch detects any anomaly on your health data, like abnormally high heart rate when resting.

The latest Garmin smartwatch can also automatically or manually track dozens of physical activities such as cycling, swimming, running, golfing, and more, complete with insights like calories burnt, steps walked, and more. It comes with over 25 preloaded GPS and indoor sports apps, as well as pre-made workouts. You can also manually create a workout for yourself. The watch boasts all globally used positioning and navigation systems to keep track of your route. The device is ATM5 rated for water resistance.

Garmin doesn’t detail the battery capacity of the Venu Sq 2 but says the watch will last for about 20 hours with continuous all-system navigation active. You can stretch the battery life to up to 20 hours if you use the device in battery-saver smartwatch mode. The watch is compatible with Android and iOS devices with support for smart notifications, Garmin Pay contactless payments, and select third-party apps via the Connect IQ Store.

You can control and manage the Garmin Venu Sq 2 through the Garmin Connect app. If you get the Music Edition, you don’t need your phone for music. You can directly stream on your wrist and listen on a connected TWS earbud. The watches are available in a wide range of colors from the company’s official website.
