Google Chrome is celebrating its 15th birthday this week, and with that, the search giant is giving it a nice makeover and bringing over some new features too. Google says that 15 years later, Chrome’s original goal is still holding true. And that is to “build a browser that’s fast, reliable, secure and easy to use.”

With this new update, you’re going to be able to customize your browser using Material You. A feature that’s been on Android and Chrome OS for a couple of years now, is now coming to the browser proper. The team has created some new color palettes that better complement your tabs and toolbar, while keeping icons and fonts still legible with these changes in colors.

Google also says that they have better integrated with operating systems so that your Chrome preferences can easily adapt to OS-level system settings. This includes settings like light and dark mode.

Google has also given the Chrome Web Store a Material You redesign. Which looks absolutely stunning. Making it easier than ever before to find AI-powered extensions, and much more.

Google is making it easier to search on Chrome

This shouldn’t come as a surprise, considering Google’s number one source of revenue is search. But Google is making it easier to search on Chrome. The team has recently rolled out new capabilities that give you quicker access to information and search tools as you are browsing the web. For example, on a webpage, you can select the “Search this page with Google” from the three-dot menu. And that will open up a Google Search side panel, where you are able to dig deeper into a topic. You are also able to pin the Google Search side panel to your toolbar.

Staying safe and secure as you browse the internet is pretty important, which is why google has also redesigned the dangerous site page. Now when you navigate to a site that Chrome thinks is dangerous, it’ll be bright red. This is to really get your attention, of course you can still proceed if you wish.

Happy 15th Birthday, Google Chrome!
