Google has finally announced its first foldable smartphone today, and it comes with a compelling set of cameras. The Pixel Fold possibly has the best cameras out of any foldable smartphone on the market.

We, of course, won’t know this until we properly test them, but all things considered, it could happen. So, let’s see what the phone has to offer, shall we? Let’s focus on the hardware first.

The Pixel Fold has a compelling set of cameras, and could beat out its foldable competitors

The Pixel Fold has three cameras on the back, and two on the front. A 48-megapixel main camera (Quad PD with OIS + CLAF, f/1.7 aperture, 0.8um pixel size, 82-degree FoV) is the star of the show. We expected the same camera as on the Pixel 7, but that’s not the case here.

A 10.8-megapixel ultrawide camera (f/2.2 aperture, 1.25um pixel size, 121.1-degree FoV, lens correction) is also included, as is a 10.8-megapixel telephoto unit (f/3.05 aperture, 1.22um pixel size, 21.9-degree FoV, 5x optical zoom, Super Res Zoom up to 20x).

LDAF (Laser Detect Auto Focus) sensor is also included, as are OIS and EIS (Optical and Electronic stabilization). Spectral and flicker sensors are included here as well.

The camera hardware looks great, but Google’s image processing is even more important

The camera hardware looks great, but Google’s image processing is even more important. It’s not exactly a secret that Pixel phones take great pictures. Ever since the Pixel 2, Google’s Pixel phones have been amongst the best camera smartphones on the market.

We expected the Pixel Fold to fly high in that regard, and thus possibly beat out the competition. The Pixel 7 does a great job with zoomed-in shots despite the fact it doesn’t have a telephoto camera. The Pixel 7 Pro takes that to a new level, and the Pixel Fold could offer a somewhat similar performance. 5x optical zoom sure is appreciated on a foldable.

On top of all this, Google also offers a bevy of camera features you can take advantage of. Magic Eraser and Photo Unblur have got to be the best-known ones, and also some of the most useful ones.

Google’s Night Sight is also well-known for low-light photography, while you get all the standards here too. Such as Panorama, Long Exposure, Portrait Mode, and much more. All the useful camera features from Google’s flagship Pixel smartphones are basically included here.
