How to Cancel Amazon Prime

Amazon Prime offers plenty of great perks for those willing to pay $139 for a year. But not everyone needs everything that Amazon Prime offers, and that’s where canceling might come in handy. Amazon Prime does cost $139 for the year, which is honestly not a bad price, considering you’re getting free fast shipping, Amazon Prime Video, Twitch Prime and much more. That comes out to about $12 per month – that’s less than Netflix these days.

Prime sounds like a really good option for those that shop on Amazon quite often. But it can also become rather expensive if you’re trying to cut back. Or maybe you’re fed up with the changing prices that Amazon has, which the FTC is currently investigating. Either way, it’s still a good idea to cancel your membership and save some cash.

The good news here is that Amazon does make it rather simple to cancel your Prime subscription.

What does Amazon Prime offer?

Before you cancel your Amazon Prime membership, let’s go over what Amazon Prime actually offers. Because it surprisingly offers quite a bit. Of course, the thing that we obviously know a lot about with Prime is the fast, free shipping. It used to be advertised as free two-day shipping, though these days a lot of items aren’t shipping that quickly. That started during the pandemic and apparently Amazon never caught up again.

Amazon also offers Prime Now which is available in a few cities, and it lets you get some items delivered to your door within two hours.

For those looking for some content, Amazon Prime does include Prime Video with Thursday Night Football, and Amazon Music Unlimited. These are pretty good things to have included in Prime, especially considering how much they cost without Prime. Prime Video will cost you $8.99 per month separately, while Prime itself is a little over $11. And Amazon Music Unlimited is $11 per month by itself.

Amazon also includes Twitch Prime with Prime. This is going to get you free loot and games with Prime Gaming, and a free Twitch channel subscription each month. Those that use Twitch a lot, will really like this benefit.

If you’re okay with losing those benefits, then it might be worth it to cancel Amazon Prime.

On this next page, you can choose to cancel your membership or pause your renewal. If you just want to cancel your Prime membership for a few months, then pausing is probably the best option. As it is very easy to unpause your Prime membership and get it going again. So choose the option you want, then click the yellow button which will say either “Cancel” or “Pause” with the date of your next billing cycle.
