HTC has just announced a new tablet, which belongs in the ‘believe it or not’ category. We’re not used to seeing new phones and tablets from the company, and yet this new tablet comes after HTC announced the Desire 22 Pro a week ago.

HTC announced a new tablet, and it’s an entry-level offering

The name of this tablet is the HTC A101, and it’s not exactly overly exciting. It not only offers rather thick bezels around the display, which makes it look a bit old, but its specs are also nothing to write home about.

As you can see in the images provided below, the bezels are quite thick, while there are two cameras on the back. The camera island does protrude, and the sides are mostly flat.

Speaking of cameras, a 16-megapixel main camera is included, and backed by a 2-megapixel ultrawide sensor. Night mode is supported here, despite the fact this is a tablet. A 10.1-inch fullHD+ (1920 x 1200) display sits on the front.

A 12nm Unisoc SoC fuels the device

Now, in regards to the SoC, you’ll find the Unisoc T618 on the inside. That chip is built on the 12-nanometer process, which is nowhere close to the 5nm chips that we’re seeing these days. HTC included 8GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage (expandable) inside this tablet.

A 7,000mAh battery is also a part of the package, and it supports 10W charging. Android 11 comes pre-installed, with HTC skin. Needless to say, one would expect Android 12 in this day and age, but HTC opted for Android 11 for some reason.

This tablet supports 4G LTE connectivity, but not 5G. It does have two SIM card slots, though. Bluetooth 5.0 is also a part of the package.

This is an entry-level tablet, by the looks of it, and it won’t exactly see a wide release. The device is launching in South Africa, and it remains to be seen if HTC opts to offer it elsewhere.
