HTC has finally announced its new smartphones for 2020 — HTC U20 5G and Desire 20 Pro. The HTC U20 5G is the company’s first ever 5G smartphone.

While it is expected to be a flagship device, the HTC U20 5G actually packs a mid-range 5G chipset. It also features an LCD panel rather than AMOLED. Still, it looks modern with a punch-hole display and curved back body.

HTC U20 5G Full Specifications

The matte gloss design looks very similar to that of the Realme X50 Pro smartphone. It sports a 6.8-inch display with Full HD+ (2400 x 1080 pixels) resolution.

With a 20:9 aspect ratio, the display is also quite tall. Under the hood is the 7nm Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G Mobile Platform featuring a Kryo 475 CPU and an Adreno 620 GPU.

It also looks bulky by measuring 9.4mm in thickness. The HTC U20 5G packs a massive 5,000mAh battery.

This is also the main reason for the phone’s 215.5g weight. While the device supports Quick Charge 4.0, it also only comes with a Quick Charge 3.0 power adapter. It runs on Android 10 out of the box.

Features 48MP quad camera setup on the rear

The quad camera setup on the rear features a 48MP primary sensor. It is accompanied by an 8MP ultra-wide, a 2MP macro and 2MP depth sensors. For selfies, the punch-hole in the top left corner is equipped with a 32MP camera.

While the rear camera supports 4K video recording, it’s limited to just 1080p on the front.

It comes in a single storage variant that offers 8GB RAM and 256GB of internal storage. The hybrid SIM card slot also offers storage expansion up to 2TB.

Connectivity features include 5G, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth 5, GPS, NFC, and USB Type-C port. The fingerprint scanner is located on the rear of the device. Unlike the modern in-display fingerprint scanners, the one on U20 5G should be able to unlock instantaneously.

Both the power button and volume rocker can be found on the right edge. The new HTC U20 5G is currently available only in Taiwan and is priced at NT$18,900 (approx. USD 636). If launched in the US, it could be one of the most affordable 5G smartphones.

As of now, there is information about the exact availability date of the HTC U20 outside of Taiwan. The company is also yet to launch the successor to the flagship HTC U12+ launched in May 2018.
