iRobot today, announced two new robot vacuums – the Roomba j9+ and the Roomba Combo j9+. Now technically, it’s four new vaccums, since they both come without the auto-empty dock and sans the “plus” on their name. But they are all just variations of the same vacuum.
The main difference between the Roomba j9+ and the Roomba Combo j9+ is going to be the fact that the Roomba Combo does mopping as well.
It’s going to sound very familiar to Roomba Combo j7+ customers, however, there is a really nice upgrade here. The auto-empty dock can now also fill the water tank. But it does not clean the mop, yet.
iRobot has made these robot vacuums more powerful than ever, with a new upgraded motor that is designed to “tackle dirt, pet fur and debris with unmatched precision”. They also come with the Roomba POOP Guarantee. So you don’t have to worry about it rolling over pet waste.
Pre-orders are available for the iRobot Roomba j9 series right now. With the iRobot Roomba j9+ costing $899, and the Roomba Combo j9+ costing $1,399. That’s a bit of a price increase over the j7 series, but it is a pretty nice upgrade overall.
iRobot OS 7.0 brings Dirt Detective among other features
Along with these new robot vacuums, iRobot is announcing a new update to its operating system, that’s iRobot OS 7.0. This likely has a number of fixes internally that make the robots run better, but some of the bigger changes is Dirt Detective. This basically uses an algorithm to keep track of previous cleaning tasks to assess the dirties parts of your home. This is going to allow it to prioritize those locations, and clean them accordingly.
Dirt Detective also forces the Roomba Combo j9+ to clean the bathroom last. So that the dirt and grime from the bathroom doesn’t get spread around your home.
There’s also a new SmartScrub feature that will ensure that the Roomba Combo j9+ will make multiple passes through parts of your home, when mopping. It can even boost the scrubbing power in these locations to eliminate dirt and stains.
