You'll be able to rent TV and movies through Plex soon

Plex today is announcing that TV and movie rentals are just around the corner. After the last few years of waiting, Plex says it should have TV and movie rentals ready for users soon. Initially the company planned to have this feature out quite some time ago. It was first announced at CES in 2020, but then hit snags due to the pandemic. This was followed by a bug with Android TV, Android mobile, and Amazon Fire TV devices that would randomly stop the streaming playback whenever ads came up.

A problem that reportedly took months to address and fix. Now that the fix has been implemented though, Plex is moving forward. Rentals is something that users have been wanting for a while. It’s also a feature that many other popular streaming services offer. And with plex finally getting around to adding a store of its own, it’s providing even more value to users.

Plex TV and movie rentals should arrive by Q2 if not sooner

Plex has confirmed at CES this week that a rental market is near ready to push out to users. According to the company, the market will be ready by Q2, or even sooner. That does mean that the rollout could still be a few months away. However, if Plex is able to roll the market out sooner then it’s possible it could show up within the next month.

Once it does arrive, users will be able to rent or purchase TV shows and movies. Alongside all of the other ways they can already access their media through Plex. In addition to the rentals and purchase market, Plex also says it has plans to launch a subscription service of some kind. This would allow users to subscribe to a myriad of streaming services through Plex. Keeping everything contained in one location for convenience.

It also has plans to add additional features to the existing platform, including a recommendations feature.
